| So, today i went off base. We did many things, none of which was work. I assume we were just along for the ride. We
started off here at work and drove to the gate where we got to get out
and lock n load our weapons. That was cool, we drove over a bridge and
a few miles to the base out in town. The ride was fun, i got to . "be
on the look out for suspicious characters" hehe. There is so much
greenery out in town. Apparently the town is a bonified "oasis". The
roads were lined with huge palms, and bushes and smaller trees were
everywhere, It was like being in a whole other country. We got to our
little place we were going and raided there food for snacks, and me and
my buddy, Nettles hit the road. We walked all around taking pictures of
various things. I will send some more your way later on. We walked
through empty and abandoned streets. There were dozens of broken down
buildings, vacated years ago from the looks of them. There was military
buildings (Iraqi), warehouses, huge machine shops and power plants. We
even found a cool tank thing in this warehouse, we took pictures but it
was dark and the flash did not work. Then we walked around some more.
Found a truck and drove that around for a bit. We drove all through a
few U.S. bases and found an Iraqi one finally. We drove inside, got
saluted and let in by the gate guard with a simple wave of the hand. We
parked and went poking around trying to decide what kinds of things we
could get in to. We saw a sort of store-room, so we raided that for
more munchies and energy drinks. After we were fed and bouncing off the
walls from our energy drinks, we went back to the little place we were
"suppose" to be. They all wanted to go to the chow hall so everyone
piled in the truck, even four in the truck bed. We all went to chow and
we got up to clear our weapons in a barrel (like you do at almost every
building here). Nettles had forgotten his ID, even with officers and
E-8's with us we could not et him in. So me and Nettles decide to
continue our adventures and try and find a store to get something to
drink. We get turned around on various roads by guards. We finally
found a road that looked familiar to him so we followed it and after a
few turns and u-turns we found the Iraqi store. After a couple minutes
of haggling with the guy (who did not speak much english, so why try)
we bought a Hookah. So now we had our treasure for the day and walked
around greeting everyone. The people were very nice and we got lots of
thumbs up from the kids. We found the Iraqi Military training facility
and saw how they train their "jundi" (recruits). After that we were
tired and went back just in time to jump in the convoy and come home.
It was a pretty fun day, broke up the same old boring countless weeks
we have spent here. | | |
| Well i have been on night shift for like the past month... it sucks a lot. i dont get to see any of my friends or the sun. i dont like the heat of course, but i do like to know there is a sun still there lol. i keep gettin shifted around from building to building covering for people on leave. maybe its the curse of knowing too much about your job and everyone elses. i just wish i could go back to my regular days. now for the next 3 days i have to do training, classes and the rifle range during my sleep time, after i already worked 12 hours. not looking forward to that. Now on the other hand i couldnt be a happier guy. im fallin in love with this girl i knew years ago. she just found me again and i am having all these feelings i never expected to have again after my fiance died. its insane... like im on a roller coaster (or ferris wheel ;) -inside joke- lol. i would almost say i feel more for her then i did for my fiance but i am not sure. its hard to remember the exact feeling you had so long ago. and i wouldnt want to knock my feelings for her down at all because i loved her more than anything. but now, i cant help it... i love every single thing about this girl. she can do no wrong in my eyes. and i dont think she really does anyways. well im off to play some video games.

| For the last two days we have been working on re-wiring this building (for internet, not power). We did one hell of a job and i was up for about 40 something hours straight working on it. Other than that its been pretty quite. A few of my buddies got promoted this month. We just held a formation for one because he just got back off leave. I am stil ltrying to find some parts for the golf cart we wrecked lol. God that was so much fun.. but now we only have one so it sucks. I will write more later when i put caffeine in my body and my brain starts working.
